THE BLOG

I thought you might want to meet me before you dive in.
So, hi!

i'm Kayla

I’m a teacher, writer, and entrepreneur who travels the world with my wife and my pack of dogs. I dreamed of becoming a writer and teacher ever since I was a young girl. Little did I know, these two passions would lead me to blog writing and yoga teaching! I adore education in all forms, and I love to express myself through words—so here we are.

Veggie Burrito

By Kayla Nielsen / December 9, 2018 / 0 Comments

Ingredients This is according to our serving size for two people. We had plenty of left overs.  Wraps *we chose gluten free tortillas made out of black rice, which were super yummy, but also fell apart really easily. It helps to get LARGE wraps, to make sure the ingredients don’t burst out of the sides and […]

Hormones & Mushrooms

By Kayla Nielsen / December 4, 2018 / 0 Comments

I had soy poisoning about five years ago when I was living in Indonesia. Whenever this comes up, most people’s first reaction is usually: “What does that even mean? What’s wrong with soy?” So, if you’re in that same boat, I don’t blame you. Hell, I was in that same boat myself, which is how […]

Soul Bowl

By Kayla Nielsen / December 3, 2018 / 0 Comments

You’ve probably seen this meal (or a variation of it) at a million cutesy vegan cafes.Or, even just as a veg option on a regular menu. It’s super simple and inexpensive to create in your own kitchen, and one of my top picks for summery meals. Soul Bowls are perfect for lunch or dinner, as […]

Granola

By Kayla Nielsen / December 3, 2018 / 0 Comments

I know there are plenty of granola/muesli options out there. But here’s the thing: it’s SO EASY and affordable to make big batches of your own! I love to make personalized mixes of your own depending on which fruits are in season. It’s also just nice to know EXACTLY what’s going into each batch, considering […]

Chia Pudding

To be honest, I can’t believe I’m even writing a “recipe” for this, because it’s SO DAMN SIMPLE that’s kind of hilarious. However, I actually do get a lot of questions about how to make it- so I thought, why not? This is a great option for a quick, simple, yet HEALTHY start to your day.Combine it […]

Hummus

By Kayla Nielsen / November 29, 2018 / 0 Comments

It’s safe to say that hummus is one of my staples. I add that shit to just about EVERYTHING as a great protein additive. Sure, there are plenty of pre-made hummus options in most (Western) shops nowadays. But, it’s also REALLY easy and inexpensive to make a big batch of your own, as well.  You will need a […]

Women’s Health

I was prescribed birth control before I was even sexually active. That was 15 years ago, and I’ve been on it ever since.  And, I don’t know about you, but I absolutely DREAD going to the gyno. I mean, c’mon, I don’t think anyone ENJOYS having a stranger poke around between their legs while trying […]

YTT Abroad

As most of you know (or at least those who follow me on social media), I’ve been in India for the last month completing a 300 hour training with Trimurti Yoga. And, based on my posts- I think it’s pretty obvious that I’ve been really happy with my experience. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had a […]

Walkin’ the Walk

By Kayla Nielsen / April 30, 2018 / 0 Comments

I keep mentioning how I haven’t written anything in a long time, but I haven’t included without any real reasoning as to why. Although I’ve thought about it quite a lot recently, the answer wasn’t especially apparent to me until last week. I mean, c’mon- nothing like a $10 palm reading from a strange psychic […]

Everyday Prophets

By Kayla Nielsen / April 26, 2018 / 0 Comments

Intro: I’ve had several random encounters over the last two days which have inspired this piece. Actually, scratch that. I don’t really think that anything is TRULY random. In fact, these stories were clearly presented to me for a reason. Maybe that reason is to get me writing again. (it’s been awhile) Or maybe that […]

Blast From the Past in Kenya

By Kayla Nielsen / March 18, 2017 / 0 Comments

The first time I came to Kenya was over 4 years ago & I stayed for 3 months. The country captured my heart in a way I hadn’t expected. Or, perhaps it was the IDP community (Internally Displaced Persons) who I worked with that should take credit for such a claim. Either way, 6 months […]
