Homemade Immunity Shots: How To Make a One Ingredient Immunity Booster at Home!
I had a *moment* with juicing a few years back. I was VERY into juicing, juice cleanses, liquid fasts and so on. But as the years went on, I started to notice that this was actually making me feel worse, not better- so I stopped.
Although I stopped juicing in substitution of eating, I still drink juice regularly! And, you bet your bum I still use my Namawell juicer when I do (use my code KAYLALA to say 10%). I got so many of you hooked on Namawell during the pandemic. And I LOVE that I did, because this is still truly a brand I stand behind and use on the reg.
I mean, truly- so much so that we got a SECOND Namawell to bring to Nicaragua and use in Still Salty Escape’s kitchen for our guests, as well. And, let’s just say that immunity elixirs sure are a hit in the SSE kitchen!
For those of you who don’t have a juicer, fear not. You can always use a good blender, and then strain the liquid with a fine mesh strainer, instead.

This post will share my favorite shot recipe that serves as a true immune booster shot for everyone. Whether you have a sore throat, or you’re just looking to add in food and drinks with more anti-inflammatory properties into your diet- this elixir is the one for you.
One of the best things about this immunity shot is that it’s only one ingredient. And it’s an ingredient that can be found at just about any grocery store or farmer’s market near you. That’s right, just one ingredient can really make a difference in boosting your health, regulating your digestion, and aiding your immune system.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
Homemade Immunity Shots
If you’ve been here a while, or you’ve simply perused my blog, then you’ll see tons of juice and juice pulp recipes. Many of which I still love dearly.
However, there’s one ingredient that’s a true queen in my eyes. So much so, she doesn’t need a recipe, because she’s just one single, powerful ingredient. Not even a pinch of black pepper more.
And that, my friends, is ginger.
Trust me when I say that fresh ginger is truly bae in the juicing world. Chances are, you’ve seen ginger in many store bought juicers and immunity shots, or from fresh juices at your local farmer’s market and restaurants.
The thing is, most of the time ginger is combined with other ingredients- which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I mean, get it where you can.
But the truth is, she’s like a superhero all on her own. She doesn’t need anything else. However, I will say that usually ginger is combined with other fruits or veggies, because the flavor of straight up ginger can pack quite the punch. She’s a spicy one, for sure.
I’m not talking about ginger with fresh turmeric, or lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar, or black pepper, or any other flavor that might take away from that potent spice we all know and love.
I’m talking about straight the hell up GINGER on its own. Is it intense? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
There’s 3 reasons I love drinking ginger shots just about every day:
1. Immunity Boost
Most of you know about my chronic health issues, so I’m always open to incorporating immune boosting practices, foods, and drinks into my life.
One of the most beneficial things I’ve discovered is that when I treat my immune system as a whole, then my overall health improves (not entirely shocking, I know). Ginger provides antibacterial and antiviral properties, as well as power antioxidants.
Trust me when I say that ginger shots truly pack a punch when it comes to health benefits.
2. Digestive Aid
It’s no secret that ginger supports and aids our digestion (we see this in a variety of anti-bloat supplements). No shade at these supplements, but also- why not just go to the source?
Whether you’re eating ginger by cooking it into your food, or you’re juicing it- your belly will say a big fat THANK YOU (especially if you drink the juice or shot AFTER your meal).
Don’t forget that fiber also helps our digestion! So that means that you don’t want to miss out on all the yummy fiber that comes out in the pulp from the juicing process. In fact, I highly recommend mixing it in with your next batch of granola for the most delicious, subtle flavor of all.
3. Palette Cleanser
Not gonna lie, I think this one is more of a personal preference and experience, as opposed to a universally researched and accepted (like the above points).
But man, I FEEL this after I’m done eating, if I take a shot of ginger juice- my mouth feels more cleansed, AND I signal to my body that the meal is over- rather than eating past fullness, which I can definitely do when I’m bored, stressed, or just plain mindless. Thank g for intuitive eating, right?
Either way, I like to have that refreshed, cleansed flavor in my mouth, because it also helps with any funky breath that might have occurred from whatever you just ate.
How To Drink Fresh Ginger Juice Regularly
Now, I know it might sound daunting to drink ginger juice regularly. But, it’s really not that difficult. Promise!
I like to make a big batch of ginger juice with my Namawell one day a week, and then keep it in a glass jar in my fridge.
Hot tip: I also like to water it down with filtered water so that the spice doesn’t totally kill me. This will ensure you actually drink it regularly, instead of dreading the taste.
Keeping a mason jar of ginger juice in the fridge for the week will remind me to take a shot before or after meals, or basically anytime I open the fridge.
This way I don’t have to break the bank buying immunity shots at Whole Foods, and I also don’t have to worry about juicing it fresh every single day.
Moral of the story: ginger needs a marketing agent, and I’m happy to be that person.
No, this common little root isn’t sexy, or flashy like the trendiest new supplement- but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t pack a powerful punch of goodness.
Don’t believe me? Try for yourself!
xx,
K
