How To Use Chakra Stones

If you’re reading this post, then chances are that you’re interested in learning more about staying healthy in the mind, body, and spirit. Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place.

One of the best ways to improve your health is to gain a better understanding about the chakra system. Why? Because it’s an energy system that promotes a balanced lifestyle more than anything. Look, I know that learning about chakras can be a little woo-woo and far out for some of you, but just think about it as a way to try to stay in alignment with your truest self above all else.

Let’s back it up a little bit, though, shall we? What are chakras? Chakra is a Sanskrit word that translates to ‘wheel’ in English. Think of chakras as these little spinning discs, these energy centers, that exist all over our bodies. While the chakra system is all over the body, we tend to focus on the 7 chakras that run the length of our spine the most.

Each of these 7 chakras are associated with a different kind of energy, and those energies translate to emotions, physical and mental wellbeing. Which means, when they’re out of alignment, you’ll notice some sort of symptom- whether it’s in your body, mind, or heart.

There are many ways to learn how to keep your chakras in alignment, balanced, and cleansed. But today, we’re going to be focusing on how to harness the healing properties of chakra stones in an effort to become more well-balanced.

This post is a guide for you to learn how to use and manage the energies of chakra stones in order to get the maximum benefits, and to tap back into your personal power with kindness.

How To Use Chakra Stones

How To Use Chakra Stones

Here’s the thing, there are all kinds of chakra stones. In fact, each chakra has specific stones with aligned energy to that chakra. Different stones impact different chakras, and different chakras impact different energies. Learning how each stone works with each chakra can be a really powerful tool on your healing journey.

Remember, healing isn’t about eliminating all negative energy, and only living in the *positive vibes* zone. Nope. Instead, it’s about giving yourself the permission and grace to feel it all- the positive energy, and dark, heavy feels, alike.

What Are Chakra Stones

Okay, so first things first, I just want to clarify that chakra stones can also be called chakra crystals interchangeably. Yep, crystals are just…stones. Doesn’t sound quite as magical that way, but it’s true.

Chakra stones are known as healing crystals that possess particular spiritual energies that help to balance your chakras, and in turn- improve your overall well being.

And no, using chakra stones for healing isn’t something your yoga teacher down the street just started doing in her free time. This is actually something that’s been used for centuries, across multiple cultures.

How cool is that?

Benefits Of Chakra Stones

Remember how I mentioned how all chakras are associated with different energies, therefore the chakra crystal associated with each chakra will also work with different energies? Well, this means that the benefits for use are far and wide.

Whether you’re using heart chakra stones on your fourth chakra for more love, kindness, and forgiveness in your life. Or whether you’re placing red jasper at the base of your spine to balance your first chakra for more stability, grounding, and security….the benefits are unparalleled.

Connecting With Nature

One of the reasons I love working with crystals (any kind, not just chakra stones), is that this is a really simple way to connect with nature. If you’re someone who’s living in a high rise city building, and you need a little more nature in your life, then you can’t go wrong by just holding a dang rock every day. Trust me on this one.

Grounding

Grounding is associated with the first chakra, the Muladhara (Root Chakra). This chakra is connected with the Earth element, which means the energy of it is like that of the earth. Since chakra crystals are stones, they are grounding in their essence. They’re heavy, they’re solid, and they’re a part of nature.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an ongoing practice, and one that can be supported with a stone like rose quartz when working with the heart chakra. Learn more about forgiveness in my Heart Medicine series.

Mental Clarity

With all the screens and online connection, I think we’re feeling more brain foggy now than ever before. This is a sign of the crown chakra (located at the top of the head), being imbalanced. Working with a stone like clear quarts or selenite is a great way to clear the brain fog, and seek mental clarity, instead.

Emotional Healing

Emotional healing will likely also take place with the heart chakra. Since you’ve already given rose quartz a try, why not work with green aventurine a go this time around? This stone is gorgeous, and has a very different feel to the ethereal nature of rose quartz.

Spiritual Growth

When seeking spiritual growth, any of the upper three chakras will be your best bet. That means: throat chakra, third eye chakra, or crown chakra. The bottom three chakras are more connected to our humanness, and the heart chakra is the bridge between the human and spirit self.

Stress Reduction

In order to actually clear your stress reduction, you need to get clear on what you’re stressed about. The deeper WHAT will help connect you to the chakra that needs the most support, as well as the stone that’s associated with it.

Energy Boost

When we’re looking for energy, then we’ll want to focus on our third chakra, the solar plexus chakra, because this is an energy center associated with the Fire element. Citrine is one of my favorite chakra stones to use for the third chakra.

Increased Sense Of Calm

Typically when we’re tapping into calmness, that means we’re grounding down and getting present. The first chakra, the root chakra, will be our best friend in this case. Try black tourmaline to clear and cleanse the space.

Total Balance

The chakra system actually looks like a rainbow if you look at the colors associated with each energy center. In order to work on total balance, then you’ll probably need to focus on the entire spectrum, rather than only honing in on one piece.

How To Use Chakra Crystals

All of this sounds well and great, but how the heck are we supposed to use these magical little rocks?! Look, it doesn't have to be complicated, okay?

In fact, I actually encourage you to simplify your spiritual and self care practices when you can. Sometimes when they get to be five million steps long, and become super rigid- then they’re actually more stressful than helpful. And we certainly don’t want that.

Try to have fun with your process, rather than hold on too tightly to expected outcomes. It’s in that space of openness that all of the goodness is able to flow in.

Keep Stone In Your Pocket

Yes, it really can be as simple as carrying a stone around in your pocket, I swear. No woo-woo fairy dust needed.

I mean, think about it- remember when you were a kid, and you’d collect pretty things from outside. You’d find this perfect stone, and cherish it like it was a million dollar diamond, but it was just in fact…a stone from the sidewalk.

Try to use that same sense of childlike wonder in choosing your stone, and then also while you carry it around with you. Use the physical touch of it as a reminder of whatever you’re trying to work on.

Wear The Stones As Jewelry

I remember when I was working on my throat chakra as a brand new baby yoga teacher, way back in 2014, and I made a choker with a lapis lazuli crystal on it that sat right there on the center of my throat.

I wore it every day for years, until the necklace eventually broke. And then I just trusted that it did its job, and it was time to move on from that focus. And guess what? In that time- I found my voice as a teacher. Wild.

Meditate With The Stones

Most people think of meditating with chakra stones when they imagine using these crystals for healing. And, yes, meditation with the stones is a great way to use them!

Remember, meditation can be still or moving. It can be sitting up, or lying down. It can be long, or it can be short. Also, it can look however you need it to.

Add Stones To Your Bath Water

Adding crystals to your bath water is one of the Insta-perfect images you think of when you imagine self care and energy healing, isn’t it? I get it, it can be a little *extra.* But the truth is, it’s actually quite simple and passive.

Simply add the stones in the water when you take your bath, and maybe even double up by meditating in the bath to tune into the energies that you’re seeking.

Place Stones Around Your House

I’m someone who doesn't love knick knacks. Like, for real, I’ve been brainwashed by Marie Condo, and I don’t hate it.

One of the only decorations that we have in our house are crystals. Not only because they’re beautiful, but also because they’re actually useful in the space for cleansing and healing…kind of like house plants! Just the more witchy version.

Keep Stones In Your Car

Just as simple as carrying stones in your pocket, you can also keep them in your car. You don’t have to use the giant decorative pointed pieces that you might place on your mantle place, but rather the small ones that can fit into your center console without taking up a ton of space.

Carry Stones In Your Purse

Once again, you won’t want to carry a giant rock in your bag. Keep it small and simple. And, if you really want to have fun with it, then carry stones for abundance (citrine is perfect) to manifest more money in the wallet that’s sitting in the purse.

Moon Ceremonies

Full moon and new moon gatherings are a great way to bring community together, to meet like minded people, and to put your hopes, dreams, and desires out into the world. Don’t worry, you can also do them totally on your own, too.

Moon ceremonies can look any way that you want them to. Simply use them as a time to call in what you want, or to release the heavy stuff weighing you down. Check in with your emotional body to understand which chakras need the most support, and then use those corresponding crystals accordingly.

Journaling Sessions

There’s nothing better than just letting it rip with a journaling session without time limitations. You can use the chakra stones as support while you journal simply by placing them nearby, on the desk, or anywhere in plain sight.

Use the sense of sight to remind you of the energy that you’re trying to balance, and to let that flow through you as you write.
